Matthew Fleeger and Gulf Coast Western’s Commitment to Philanthropy Despite the Pandemic
Matthew Fleeger, Gulf Coast Western’s CEO, is a Dallas-based entrepreneur and philanthropist. Fleeger is a Southern Methodist University graduate, whereby he pursued a BBA degree from 1982 to 1986. He is also the CEO and initiator of MedSolutions Inc. Fleeger has standout from the rest of the entrepreneurs due to his wide range of skills, including strategic planning, team building, and contract negotiation.
Fleeger’s Gulf Coast Western started operations in 1970 in Dallas, Texas. Gulf Coast Western plays the role of exploring oil, developing reserves, and acquiring local reserves, particularly in Oklahoma, Mississippi, Texas, Colorado, and Louisiana.
Philanthropy has been one of the main agendas of Gulf Coast Western. Matthew Fleeger and his company have participated in numerous charitable projects. In 2020, Fleeger partnered with Sadie Keller Foundation to gift sick children with toys as Christmas gifts. The toy gift would bring happiness to hospitalized Washington kids who rarely spend their time outside the hospital walls. According to his partner, Sadie Keller, such kids spend most of their life in hospital confinement and rarely get time to play outside the hospital walls.
The relationship between Fleeger and Keller is a strong one bound by their commitment to philanthropy. The relationship between Sadie Keller Foundation and Gulf Coast Western started when Keller visited Fleeger in his Dallas office. Since then, Gulf Coast Western has always given out toy gifts during its annual Christmas party.
The partnership is not a show-off, but the two organizations are committed to the cause. Both leaders, Matthew Fleeger and Sadie Keller, are cancer survivors. Therefore, they understand the importance of gifting sick children. According to Fleeger, his experience and suffering due to cancer made him rethink the plight of sick young kids. His survivor’s compassion has made him impact more on philanthropy.
Apart from donating millions of money, Fleeger ensures that his employees put their resources towards realizing the children’s annual philanthropic project. The company began with the target of distributing at least 10,000 toys. However, the target has gradually increased. Since the pandemic outbreak, the contribution has faced numerous financial and logistic challenges. However, Fleeger has increased the donation by 25% since the children are more isolated than before. The eventuality has made Fleeger focus on buying toys that will allow the children to play alone.
Fleeger remains committed to raising awareness towards childhood cancer. He looks forwards to continuing with his support towards cancer research with the hope of getting a cure.
